Italy coach Marcello Lippi is likely to go with a 4-3-3 formation for Thursday's final group clash against Slovakia, according to the latest reports from Centurion.
Despite training taking place behind closed doors, Tuttosport claims the coach experimented with a 4-3-3 during the afternoon session at the Southdowns College.
And while indications earlier suggested there could be space for Andrea Pirlo following his return from injury, the latest report claims Lippi will field a Gennaro Gattuso, Daniele De Rossi and Riccardo Montolivo midfield.
Alberto Gilardino is also expected to keep his place up front, edging out competition from Giampaolo Pazzini. The Fiorentina man will be flanked by Vincenzo Iaquinta and Antonio Di Natale.
Napoli's Fabio Quagliarella could be an alternative to Di Natale. Federico Marchetti will continue in goal in place of Gianluigi Buffon.
