Italy Coach Marcello Lippi To Use 4-4-2 Against New Zealand
Lippi is likely to drop the 4-2-3-1 in favour of a classic 4-4-2...
Italy coach Marcello Lippi is expected to make some changes to his tactical system against New Zealand on Sunday by deploying a 4-4-2 formation.
After almost two hours of gruelling training at their Southdowns College complex on Wednesday, Lippi tested a 4-4-2 during a mini match in which he alternated players.
He is likely to stick with the same defence that played against Paraguay, starting Gianluca Zambrotta, Fabio Cannavaro, Giorgio Chiellini and Domenico Criscito.
In midfield he tried a four made up of Simone Pepe, Riccardo Montolivo, Daniele De Rossi and Claudio Marchisio, who played on the left for Juventus towards the latter stages of last season.
Up front were Alberto Gilardino and Vincenzo Iaquinta, though Antonio Di Natale could start against the All Whites.
According to La Repubblica, Lippi told his players to attack more and shoot when near the box.
