I Want To Win The Confederations Cup - Italy Coach Lippi

Marcello Lippi

Italy coach Marcello Lippi said that he wants to win the Confederations Cup and revealed that there could be some surprises in the Azzurri squad...

This summer Italy will make their first ever appearance as World Champions at the Confederations Cup, the traditional pre-World Cup warm-up tournament, which will be held in South Africa.

Not much is known about the squad coach Marcello Lippi will bring along, but today he announced that the fans can expect some surprises.

"You will see a lot of new faces in my next call-ups," he said to Sky today. "The players who have done well in the league will be rewarded.

"The Confederations Cup will be an important test for us, I want us to go all the way and I also want to recreate a team spirit similar to that of the World Cup."

The World Cup winning coach stirred up a lot of controversy recently by leaving out Sampdoria star Antonio Cassano, who is having possibly his best season ever without showing any signs of immaturity, as he did in the past.

Recently he said he would even join the Azzurri squad as a reserve player or full-back. Asked to reply to these declarations, Lippi simply said, "I am happy that every player between 18 and 40, dreams of the national team."

The Confederations Cup will kick-off on June 14, and Lippi is expected to announce his squad at the start of next month. The Azzurri will kick off against the USA on June 15.
