Lippi Distances Himself From Amauri's Uncertain International Future

Marcello Lippi

The Italian doesn't want to talk about the Amauri saga as he focuses on matters closer to home...

Italy coach Marcello Lippi has moved to distance himself from all the hype surrounding Amauri and his possible future in an Italy shirt.

Reports have been full of speculation with will he? won't he? questions over the Juventus striker's choice of country.

Amauri can play for Brazil and reports of a call up by Carlos Dunga have been denied. The hitman cannot be called up as yet by Lippi because his Italian citizenship has hit a brick wall.

The coach insists there is no point in talking about the Juve man playing for the Azzurri unless the all clear arrives from the passport office.

"Juventus said no to Amauri playing for Brazil? Well to be honest, you have to ask Juve that question not me," Lippi told Sky Sport Italia.

"Amauri has been good this season and he has shown his qualities this season, but as the coach of Italy I can only speak regarding Italian players."

Brazilian website Globoesporte.com claimed Amauri revealed he would never play for Italy over Brazil on Tuesday, but those claims were quickly rubbished by the player himself after he released a statement on Juventus' official website, insisting he was misquoted by the publication.

The Azzurri will clash with the Selecao next Tuesday in a friendly game at the Emirates Stadium in London.
